The first game to get me excited for quite a while, Fight Night Round 4 promises to build upon the success (in gameplay terms, if not commercially) of the magnificent FNR3.

In fact, FNR3 was so good I’m more than a little nervous of this sequel, fearing that EA will go all ‘Ready 2 Rumble’ on us, introducing unwanted graphical touches.

The biggest news so far seems to be the introduction of ‘Iron Mike’ Tyson on the roster – and a fleshed out career mode.

All good – let’s just hope Round IV delivers!

Mario and friends return in the first outing of the Mario Kart series on the Nintendo Wii.

Featuring an innovative racing-wheel controller attachment, Mario Kart Wii has become one of the best-selling Wii titles and has re-established the Mario Kart series as one of Nintendo’s crown jewels of video games after the mixed reception given to its predecessor, Mario Kart Double Dash on the Gamecube.

Mario Kart Wii also sees the controversial introduction of motorbikes, which some might see bordering on heresy, but in truth they have been integrated well with the rest of the traditional four-wheeled karts.

Use your Nintendo DS to do some more mental gymnastics with Professor Layton and The Curious Village.

Building on the success of the Brain Training series of video games, Professor Layton takes a more plot-oriented approach, set in a Victorian era dream world where you must use your powers of logic to crack the 130 brainteasers on offer (with more available to download each week).

It’s charming titles such as this that make you glad that Nintendo is back at the top of the gaming pile.
